By: Robert J Cristiano PhD on 12.5.2011
They say those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it. This series explores the similarities of events a quarter millennium ago to the events unfolding today. The fact that the Tea Party movement derived its name from the Boston Tea Party of 1773 is not coincidental.

Union ‘Gut and Amend’ Bills Slice Open CA
By: Katy Grimes on 9.9.2011
It’s “gut and amend” season in the California Legislature. More like shuck and jive and obfuscate. Last week, I received information that another bill had been gutted of its original intent, and new language added to greatly benefit labor unions. By the end of the day, two additional bills were uncovered that had also been grossly amended on behalf of labor unions.

By: Ali Meyer on 8.4.2011
Last year a Los Angeles Times investigation revealed that California welfare “clients” were using their Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards to spend millions at Las Vegas casinos and on cruise ships to hardship destinations such as Rio de Janeiro. Even when averaged together, the top 15 educated states have an unemployment rate of 8.9 percent compared to the least educated which has an average unemployment rate of 8.1 percent.

A Case for Affirmative Disclosure of Public Pensions
By: K. Lloyd Billingsley on 6.15.2011
An appeals court has ruled that a public agency must hand over pension data to a newspaper. This is a welcome development but a recent case confirms that California remains far behind the curve on government transparency.

Bye-Bye Secret Ballot?
By: Katy Grimes on 3.16.2011
State Democrats are again trying to eliminate the secret-ballot vote for union certification. Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg describes his latest measure as “the alternative electoral method for choosing collective bargaining representatives.” It is that, and a lot more.
