Preferences Hinder Racial Equality

I am the white father of three black children: two 2-year-old boys, one infant girl. As young as my children are, I already worry about their life prospects. Will they excel in school? Will they attend college? Because my children are African American, these questions are especially poignant.

Perhaps the saddest irony in education today is the fact that American students live in the greatest capitalist country in the history of the world, yet end up leaving school not knowing the first thing about how capitalism works.
