Yet the improvements in environmental quality throughout the United States over the past 25 years demonstrate that not only can economic growth and environmental improvements coincide, but economic growth is the most important prerequisite to a cleaner and healthier environment.

According to the preliminary findings of a study to be released next month by the Pacific Research Institute and The National Consumer Coalition under the auspices of Consumer Alert, enactment of the Kyoto Protocol would spell disaster to the citizens of California.

San Francisco – "Contrary to public opinion, environmental quality has improved dramatically over the last 20 years," concludes the Pacific Research Institute (PRI) in the new report, Index of Leading Environmental Indicators. "Both the U.S. and Canada are showing improvements in environmental performance in almost every major category."
