Bush Picks Pacific Research Institute Experts for Key Environmental Posts

President George W. Bush has named three environmental experts associated with the California-based Pacific Research Institute (PRI) to top positions in his Cabinet and Transition Advisory Teams: Gale Norton, nominee for Secretary of Interior; Steven Hayward, Transition Advisory Team for the Environmental Protection Agency; and Terry Anderson, Transition Advisory Team for the Dept. of the Interior.

Contrary to current belief, creating an energy crisis in California is not a simple matter. To achieve skyrocketing utility bills and brownouts at current levels, with the threat of worse to come, requires a complicated series of steps and considerable determination.

A recent New York Times article blamed California’s energy crisis on the state's supposed “blind faith in markets.” Many politicians in Sacramento are repeating this refrain, with some calling for government takeover of the power industry. Trouble is, government, not the market, caused this crisis in the first place.
