SAN FRANCISCO – Today is the two-year anniversary of the judicial approval of the anti-trust settlement between Microsoft and the U.S. Department of Justice. The consent decree was approved on November 1, 2002 by Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly of the United States District Court. Sonia Arrison, Director of Technology Studies at the Pacific Research Institute, a free-market think-tank, today issued the following statement. “As we mark the second anniversary of the consent decree, it’s important to note the positive impact that the end of extreme political meddling has had not only on Microsoft, but on the high-tech sector as a whole.” “Since the signing of the decree, we have not seen huge disparities in company stock trends, as some had feared, and industry competition has been upbeat. Silicon Valley is well equipped to compete and consumers are benefiting from an environment of robust competition.” ### About PRI For more than two decades, the Pacific Research Institute for Public Policy (PRI) has championed individual liberty through free markets.
