Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger re-appoints PRI's Lance Izumi to Board of Governors of the California Community CollegesSan Francisco (March 19, 2009) - On March 17th, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger re-appointed Lance Izumi, Koret Senior Fellow in Education Studies and senior director at the Pacific Research Institute, to the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges. Mr. Izumi is currently serving his second term as president of the Board of Governors. The Board provides statewide policy direction for California’s 110 community colleges, the largest system of higher education in the country with 2.7 million students.
“I am honored,” said Mr. Izumi, “that Governor Schwarzenegger has shown his confidence in my leadership by re-appointing me to the Board of Governors.” Mr. Izumi pointed to the Board’s recent selection of widely respected former state senator Jack Scott as state chancellor, plus progress on assessment and placement issues as just a few of the Board’s many accomplishments. “I look forward to working with my fellow Board members, Chancellor Scott, and members of our community college family to address the many challenges facing our students and our system,” he said.
Mr. Izumi was originally appointed to the Board of Governors in 2004. The appointment requires confirmation by the State Senate. In addition to his current service as president of the Board, Mr. Izumi has also served as Board vice president and representative to the California Postsecondary Education Commission.
