E-mail Print Invited Testimony to CA Senate Committee on Business and the Professions: SB 1149
PRI Testimony
By: Sally C. Pipes
4.12.2004

The bill before this committee would authorize the CA State Board of Pharmacy to begin a program to collect and distribute information about Canadian pharmacies over the Internet. If it were to become law, it would be little more than a state-sponsored publicity stunt that would put California in the position of using its scarce resources to violate federal law. The bill would do little to save Californians money on prescription drugs. In fact, if successful, it will most likely result in an increase in prices paid by Californians. Californians, after all, can already purchase drugs from Canadian sources. If, encouraged by state-sponsored websites, they do so enmasse, supplies in the relatively small Canadian market will dry up.
