SAN FRANCISCO – The digital revolution has positively transformed society but is threatened by reactionaries who want to choke innovation with bureaucratic and meddlesome rules, according to Digital Dialogue: Technology, Capitalism, and the Pursuit of Freedom, a new book released today by the Pacific Research Institute, a California-based free-market think tank. The book is a compilation of PRI senior fellow Sonia Arrison’s best TechNewsWorld columns from 2004 to 2006.

In Digital Dialogue, Ms. Arrison distills the most pressing tech issues of the day into provocative, bite-sized short essays. She argues that the tech industry must champion capitalism, defend property rights, and encourage economic freedom.

Ms. Arrison addresses a broad array of topics including:

  • Antitrust Issues
  • Intellectual Property
  • Net Neutrality
  • Telcommunications Deregulation
  • Video Franchising
  • Muni Wi-Fi
  • Free Speech
  • Privacy
  • Spam

“Success in the technology industry requires a keen understanding of consumer needs, as well as a flexible and rapid response to fluctuations in the marketplace,” said Ms. Arrison. “In order to avoid the pitfalls of overregulation, lawmakers should embrace freedom and propel the technology industry toward new and exciting frontiers.”
