Press Release

Film Sorts out the Sense from the Nonsense on Global WarmingThe science of global warming is far from settled according to An Inconvenient Truth . . . or Convenient Fiction?, a new Pacific Research Institute (PRI) documentary premiering this week in San Francisco (view trailer at www.aconvenientfiction.com). The documentary takes on former Vice President Al Gore, Hollywood, the media, and environmental extremists by presenting a more balanced perspective on the global warming debate. “The problem with Vice President Gore and other global warming extremists is that they distort the science, grossly exaggerate the risks, argue that anyone who disagrees with them is corrupt, and suggests that solutions are easy and cheap,” said Dr. Steven Hayward, senior fellow at PRI, F.K. Weyerhaeuser Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, and the “star” of PRI’s new documentary. “Unfortunately that’s an all too convenient fiction.” In his own PowerPoint presentation, Dr. Hayward surveys the available data of scientific evidence, brings attention to the facts, and attempts to thwart extremists’ attempts to dominate the debate. “Our documentary is not a multi-million dollar Hollywood production – we think it’s much cheaper and quicker when you’re straightforward with the facts,” said Sally C. Pipes, president and CEO of the Pacific Research Institute. “For those who are interested in a reasonable middle ground – particularly parents and teachers who are concerned that young Americans are not hearing all sides of the debate – we encourage you to watch the film.” The documentary will premiere in select cities this month, including the following dates and locations: Thursday, April 12, 7:00 pm, Embarcadero Center Cinema, 1 Embarcadero Center, San Francisco, California Wednesday, April 18, 6:00 pm, The Heritage Foundation’s Allison Auditorium, 214 Massachusetts Avenue, NE, Washington, D.C. Tuesday, April 24, 8:00 pm, Tribeca Grand Hotel, Two Avenue of the Americas, New York, New York
