Regress assured
The Oklahoman

The Oklahoman, June 17, 2008
Letter to the EditorRegress assured I wholeheartedly agree with "The ‘nos' have it: Session wasn't one for the ages” (Our Views, June 1) excoriating Oklahoma's Legislature for failing to pass lawsuit reform. Tort reform is an important issue for Oklahoma. The Pacific Research Institute's 2008 U.S. Tort Liability Index, a study I co-authored, found that Oklahoma had among the 20 riskiest state litigation environments. Gov. Brad Henry once promised to bring strong, "Texas-style” lawsuit reform to Oklahoma. His veto of tort reform legislation ensures that on this issue, Oklahoma will continue to lag behind its neighbor and rival across the Red River. Lawrence J. McQuillan, Sacramento, Calif. McQuillan is director for business and economic studies at the Pacific Research Institute for Public Policy.
