- Strong understanding of and commitment to free-market principles
- Good working knowledge of California and national politics, key issues before Congress and the California Legislature, and PRI’s policy agenda
- Strategic thinker and strong communicator with at least 2 years of experience in communications, public affairs, or marketing
- Skilled at translating complex information into clear, compelling messages
- Works well collaboratively – both across the organization and with outside agencies and vendors – yet is also self-directed
- Understands creative best practices across social media channels and stays up-to-date on industry trends and platform evolution
- Highly motivated, strong work ethic, personal initiative, and hands-on approach
- Ability to balance multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment
- BA/BS degree required, graduate degree a plus

What you would be able to do
The full-time Communications Specialist will support PRI’s nationally-recognized communications team in advancing the free-market think tank’s research agenda and promoting our scholars as subject-matter experts for media opportunities on health care, education, the economy, the environment, medical innovation, urban renewal, and California reform.
The Communications Specialist will assist the Vice President of Marketing and Communications and the Communications Director in traditional media outreach, while helping to execute PRI’s multi-faceted social media marketing strategies.
In addition, the Communications Specialist will assist with PRI’s outreach efforts to elected officials, third party and grassroots organizations, and young professionals, including the planning, execution and promotion of PRI’s multi-state school board member training program.
The Communications Specialist will also write a regular column for PRI’s daily Right by the Bay blog, and assist with editing and producing PRI’s quarterly magazine.
The position reports to the Vice President of Marketing and Communications. It is a full-time, in-person (non-remote) position based in PRI’s Sacramento office, with occasional travel required.
More involvement
- Prepare and staff PRI scholars for media interviews, as warranted
- Update PRI’s websites, microsites, and social media accounts regularly with new and engaging content and ensure all accounts are kept fresh
- Oversee PRI’s media and e-mail databases; prepare and send PRI’s regular e-mail updates to targeted constituencies
- Regularly log PRI’s media hits in impact database
- Maintain good working relationships with partners and vendors
- Help Vice President of Marketing and Communications and Communications Director with research and special projects
Compensation package
- Depending on the candidate’s experience level and other qualifiers, the pay range for this position is $70,304K – $75K
