Hale was the editor of the most prominent ladies magazine in her day and responsible for publishing prominent American authors such as Edgar Allen Poe and Harriet Beecher Stowe. Her influence popularized the white wedding dress, the polka, and recipes in magazines. Hale also lobbied to bring us Thanksgiving. Melanie Kirkpatrick, author, former deputy editor of the Wall Street Journal, and senior fellow at the Hudson Institute brings to life a remarkable American figure.
