Enhanced Obamacare subsidies are the problem

Rather than get to work cleaning up this mess, Democrats have chosen another tack — shutting down the federal government.

Democrats are refusing to reopen the federal government unless Congress extends the enhanced Obamacare premium subsidies scheduled to expire at the end of this year. Their ultimate goal is to make those subsidies permanent.

The shutdown’s architects say that failing to renew these tax credits will threaten the finances of millions of Americans. But a recent analysis from the Congressional Budget Office reveals that these subsidies threaten the nation’s finances, with an estimated cost of $350 billion over the next decade. And that money ultimately lines the pockets of giant insurance companies — not American patients.
