New Website for the Unconventional Environmentalist

San Francisco— Today the Pacific Research Institute (PRI), a California-based public policy think tank, launched www.EnvironmentalTrends.org, an interactive website for the unconventional environmentalist. The website features expert analysis on current environmental issues and customizable data on environmental trends.

“If you’ve ever wanted to get beyond the conventional wisdom of today’s popular literature–even check out the data yourself—EnvironmentalTrends.org is the website to visit,” said Steven Hayward, Ph.D., PRI senior fellow and founder of EnvironmentalTrends.org. “In addition to current analysis, the site provides dynamic charting of historical data using TrendCompass, a state-of-the-art software that allows the website to graphically depict environmental change.”

EnvironmentalTrends.org is the high-tech extension of the Index of Leading Environmental Indicators, an annual printed publication that for nearly 15 years examined the nature and causes of environmental progress in the U.S. and the world. Keeping pace with the online revolution, EnvironmentalTrends.org digitally reboots this research and serves as a hub for the latest environmental news and information.

The website also includes blogs, videos, quizzes, polls, and charticles in the following key areas:

  • Climate change
  • Energy
  • Air quality
  • Water quality
  • Lands and forests
  • Wildlife and biodiversity
  • Toxic chemicals

“Many of those who have a strong interest in the environment focus all too often on the doom and gloom put forth by extremists,” said Dr. Hayward. “As is our mission since the 1990s, PRI endeavors to illuminate the progress that has occurred and highlight the lessons that can be learned from environmental improvements.”
