Newspaperman R.C. Hoiles was a fierce individualist who wasn’t cowed by prevailing opinions or powerful interests, and neither were his newspapers. His moral certitude, reflected in the editorial pages of the Orange County Register, condemned some of the greatest injustices of his age.
