California gasoline prices on the rise — yet again

So, what have California drivers received in return for their “investments” in their roads and highways? That can be answered in two words: Not much.

Three days before celebrating Independence Day, drivers will take another hit at the gas pump on what has become an annual ritual in California. On July 1, motor fuel taxes will edge up, just as they have on this date for a number of years.

The current state excise tax on gasoline tax is 59.6 cents a gallon. When the calendar turns to July, it will be 61.2 cents per gallon. The excise tax on diesel will increase, as well, from 45.4 to 46.6 cents per gallon. Admittedly these are small increases. But they add up when they arrive more regularly than a city bus.
